Ozzy Osbourne: The Prince of Darkness Who Redefined Rock and Resilience

Few names in rock history resonate as powerfully as Ozzy Osbourne — a man whose life and music have been as wild as they are inspiring. Known affectionately (and a little fearfully) as the “Prince of Darkness,” Ozzy’s journey from Birmingham’s gritty streets to global superstardom is as legendary as his music. Whether you know him as the frontman of Black Sabbath, a solo heavy metal icon, or the unfiltered dad on The Osbournes, one thing is clear: Ozzy Osbourne is a cultural force that refuses to fade. From Working-Class Roots to Heavy Metal Pioneer Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, in Birmingham, England, Ozzy grew up in a working-class family. With little formal education and an early brush with the law, his future looked uncertain — until music became his saving grace. In 1969, he joined forces with guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward to form Black Sabbath. The band’s dark, doom-laden sound laid the foundation for what we now call heavy metal. Their debut album Black Sabbath (1970) was raw, heavy, and unlike anything the world had heard — and it changed music forever. The Solo Rise After Sabbath After being fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to substance abuse issues, many thought Ozzy’s career was over. But in true Osbourne fashion, he came back stronger. His debut solo album, Blizzard of Ozz (1980), featuring hits like “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley,” proved he was far from finished. With the help of legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads, Ozzy’s solo work carved out a new legacy — blending powerful vocals, electrifying riffs, and an unmistakable stage presence that turned every show into an event. Personal Battles and Public Triumphs Ozzy’s career has been marked by struggles with addiction, health scares, and controversy, but through it all, he’s remained remarkably honest and open. His candidness about his demons has made him a symbol of resilience. In recent years, Ozzy has been battling Parkinson’s disease, which he publicly revealed in 2020. Despite the challenges, he’s continued to make music, release albums, and connect with fans — proving that passion can outshine pain. Ozzy in Pop Culture: More Than Just Music Ozzy’s fame exploded beyond the rock scene when MTV launched The Osbournes in 2002. The reality show gave the world a raw, humorous look into his family life, turning Ozzy, Sharon, Jack, and Kelly into household names. From biting the head off a bat onstage (yes, it really happened) to delivering unfiltered soundbites that became memes before memes existed, Ozzy has become a pop culture icon in the most unconventional way. Legacy of the Prince of Darkness Ozzy Osbourne's influence on rock and metal is immeasurable. He’s been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (as part of Black Sabbath) and honored with countless awards. But perhaps his greatest legacy is his ability to adapt, survive, and inspire. He once said, “I'm not afraid of dying. I'm afraid of not trying.” And he’s lived by that motto — pushing through personal and physical battles to keep doing what he loves. Final Thoughts Ozzy Osbourne is more than a rock legend — he's a symbol of endurance, evolution, and authenticity. From the shadowy stages of heavy metal to the bright lights of reality TV, he’s left an indelible mark on music and pop culture. And even as he scales back live performances, his voice, story, and spirit continue to echo — loud and proud — just like a true rock god should.

From Working-Class Roots to Heavy Metal Pioneer

Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, in Birmingham, England, Ozzy grew up in a working-class family. With little formal education and an early brush with the law, his future looked uncertain — until music became his saving grace.

The Solo Rise After Sabbath

After being fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to substance abuse issues, many thought Ozzy’s career was over. But in true Osbourne fashion, he came back stronger. His debut solo album, Blizzard of Ozz (1980), featuring hits like “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley,” proved he was far from finished.

Joe Rogan claims two ex-presidents pressured Spotify to silence his opinions on COVID-19.

Joe Rogan claims two ex-presidents pressured Spotify to silence his opinions on COVID-19.
Joe Rogan gained widespread recognition during the pandemic for being a COVID-19 skeptic and encouraging young people not to get the vaccine. His strong opinions - which went against public health officials - led many to call for his ultra-popular podcast to be taken down

Controversial podcast host Joe Rogan claims that two former U.S. presidents attempted to pressure Spotify into removing his show due to his outspoken views on COVID-19. The 57-year-old media figure revealed the alleged censorship attempt during a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, where he spoke with guest Dr. Mary Talley Bowden.

“Spotify got calls from two former presidents,” Rogan said, without naming either individual.

Rogan rose to prominence during the pandemic for questioning the official COVID-19 narrative. He frequently featured alternative voices and openly discouraged young people from taking the vaccine — a stance that drew intense backlash from health officials, mainstream media, and parts of the public.

Despite the controversy, Rogan’s popularity soared, with the host claiming he gained "two million subscribers in a month" at the height of the media storm.

“They made it sound like I was this maniac,” Rogan said. “Then people actually listened and thought: ‘Oh, he’s reasonable and asking real questions.’”

In 2020, Spotify inked an exclusive $100 million deal with Rogan. The partnership continued in 2024 with a renewed deal reportedly worth $250 million, though his show is no longer platform-exclusive.

Joe Rogan claims two ex-presidents pressured Spotify to silence his opinions on COVID-19.
The conservative host took to his podcast on Tuesday to reveal some very high-profile people had begged the streaming service to cut his show, including two unidentified former presidents (pictured: former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton)

Throughout the controversy, Spotify stood by its creator. While the company faced public pressure, including from Neil Young, who briefly removed his music in protest, the platform refused to cancel Rogan. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek acknowledged disagreements with Rogan's content but emphasized that the company wouldn’t alter its policies for a single creator.

“We don’t change our policies based on one creator or any media cycle,” Ek stated in 2022. “That said, there are many things Rogan says that I strongly disagree with.”

The White House also weighed in at the time. Then-Press Secretary Jen Psaki called on tech platforms to take stronger action against COVID-19 misinformation.

“Our hope is that all major tech platforms be responsible in ensuring Americans have access to accurate information. That includes Spotify,” Psaki said.

In response, Spotify added content advisories to COVID-related episodes, but Rogan’s show remained intact.

Although the identities of the two former presidents allegedly involved remain unknown, some speculate whether Joe Biden was one of them. Notably, Rogan has since welcomed high-profile conservative figures onto his show — including Donald Trump, Kash Patel, and Elon Musk — after initially declining Trump’s appearance request during earlier election cycles.

Rogan’s audience continues to grow, with his podcast boasting over 14.5 million followers as of 2024, maintaining its status as one of the most influential shows in the podcasting world.

Trump Commends National Guard for ‘Outstanding Job’ in Easing LA Unrest, While Mayor Clarifies Troops Never Deployed in City – Live Updates on US Politics

Trump Commends National Guard for ‘Outstanding Job’ in Easing LA Unrest, While Mayor Clarifies Troops Never Deployed in City
Confrontations between immigration rights supporters and law enforcement have been taking place in Paramount and downtown Los Angeles, California, following recent raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents.

13.29 BST

One person was arrested overnight in connection with the protest in Paramount, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.

The New York Times reported two officers had been treated in hospital for injuries and discharged.

It added that one car had been burned and a fire at a local strip mall had been extinguished.

President Trump appears to have used federal law to order the national guard to go to Los Angeles, rather than the 18th century Insurrection Act.

The national guard is a hybrid entity that serves both state and federal interests. Often, it operates under state command and control, using state funding. Sometimes national guard troops will be assigned by their state to serve federal missions, remaining under state command but using federal funding.

The law cited by Trump’s proclamation places national guard troops under federal command.

The law says this can be done under three circumstances: when the US is invaded or in danger of invasion; when there is a rebellion or danger of rebellion against the authority of the US government; or when the president is unable to “execute the laws of the United States”, with regular forces.

But the law also says that orders for those purposes “shall be issued through the governors of the States”. It’s not immediately clear whether the president can activate national guard troops without the order of that state’s governor – especially pertinent given the order has been made despite the objections of California governor Gavin Newsom.

Trump praises national guard, though troops have not arrived

President Trump has praised the efforts of the national guard in calming the protests in Los Angeles, despite the city’s mayor saying troops have yet to arrive.

In a post on his social media platform TruthSocial, Trump said: "Great job by the National Guard in Los Angeles after two days of violence, clashes and unrest. We have an incompetent Governor (Newscum) and Mayor (Bass) who were, as usual (just look at how they handled the fires, and now their VERY SLOW PERMITTING disaster. Federal permitting is complete!), unable to to handle the task.

These Radical Left protests, by instigators and often paid troublemakers, will NOT BE TOLERATED. Also, from now on, MASKS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to be worn at protests. What do these people have to hide, and why??? Again, thank you to the National Guard for a job well done!”

However just an hour after Trump’s post, Bass tweeted: “I want to thank LAPD and local law enforcement for their work tonight. I also want to thank Gavin Newsom for his support.

“Just to be clear, the National Guard has not been deployed in the City of Los Angeles.”

About 2,000 troops could be deployed to the city in California, after an immigration crackdown led to protests that have run into two days.

The time in LA is approaching 5am, and it is still yet to be seen whether the unrest will run into a third day.

We’ll be bringing you the latest, including the political reaction to the protests and Trump’s decision.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and actor Hailee Steinfeld tied the knot on Saturday, according to multiple media reports.

Pictures emerged from the power couple’s wedding that took place in Southern California, where both Allen and Steinfeld live.

Photos obtained by “People” magazine show Steinfeld, in a white strapless gown, walking down the aisle as well as the couple sharing a kiss.

The timing and location of the wedding were closely guarded secrets, though Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins let the cat out of the bag in March by revealing the date as May 31. He later backtracked, saying he didn’t know anything.

Despite the pending wedding, Allen was present for the start of the Bills voluntary series of spring practices, which opened on Tuesday. The Bills return to practice on Monday, though Allen isn’t scheduled to address the media until the Bills open their mandatory sessions on June 10.
Allen, who turned 29 last week, and the 28-year-old Steinfeld were engaged during the Bills bye week in November, when the quarterback proposed on a California cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

The two were first linked in the spring of 2023, when they were photographed dining together in New York City. Steinfeld has since begun attending Bills home games and the couple was inseparable at the NFL Awards ceremony in February, when Allen credited Steinfeld upon accepting the league’s MVP honor.

Allen followed suit in April in being spotted with Steinfeld arriving for an after-party following premier of the movie “Sinners,” which stars Steinfeld.

Steinfeld began her acting career at the age of 10, and earned an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress for her role as Mattie Ross in the Coen brothers’ 2010 remake of “True Grit.”

Allen is entering his eighth NFL season. In March, he signed a contract extension worth $330 million.

Deadly Plane Crash Rocks San Diego Suburb, Leaving Several Dead and a Path of Fiery Wreckage — A Look at What Happened

Deadly Plane Crash Rocks San Diego Suburb, Leaving Several Dead and a Path of Fiery Wreckage — A Look at What Happened

In the stillness of night, a quiet, tree-lined street in a San Diego neighborhood was plunged into chaos when a plane clipped a power line and crashed – turning cars into fireballs and sending residents fleeing in a haze of smoke and confusion.

The pilot of the plane, a Cessna 550 business jet, had just told air traffic controllers that although the weather wasn’t good they would continue with landing, according to air traffic control audio recorded by LiveATC.net.

“I just want to see what I’m in for here,” the pilot told a controller when asking about weather conditions at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport. The controller reported poor conditions – visibility of a half mile and a cloud ceiling of 200 feet.

“All right, that doesn’t sound great but we’ll give it a go,” the pilot responded. Roughly half an hour after that exchange, the plane crashed.

There was no sign of any problem, and no emergency was declared.

Six people were onboard the flight, officials said, and when asked if anyone on the plane survived, San Diego Fire Assistant Chief Dan Eddy answered: “I don’t know on that point, but no, I don’t believe so.”

At least two people were confirmed dead, according to the San Diego Police Department. Eight people in the Murphy Canyon neighborhood – a military housing community – were injured, including two treated for minor injuries at the scene and six others who received medical attention, police said.

Responding fire crews and police officers sprinted through thick fog in a race against the encroaching flames. After hitting the power line the plane slammed into a home and left a trail of debris along the street, spilling fuel that sparked a chain of fires

Firefighters went door to door, urgently evacuating residents – parents clutching infants, families half-asleep.

One resident told CNN affiliate KFMB they were jolted awake by a thunderous boom, looked outside, and saw a “fireball going down the street.” As his wife grabbed their dogs and children, he ran to help evacuate the family whose home was directly struck by the plane.

“I ended up grabbing two of the kids over the fence, took them over to the neighbors, came back, we grabbed the ladder, got the wife out, got the two dogs out, got the husband out.”

Another resident told KFMB the moment he opened his door, he saw his neighbor’s car explode.

“First thing I do is run upstairs, grab my children, my wife and I’m in my underwear. I just walk out,” he said. “We ended up helping a few neighbors get out. That’s all that we could do”

Authorities work the scene where a small plane crashed into a San Diego neighborhood early Thursday.

The destruction stretched for at least a quarter mile down the residential street, where several cars caught fire and others several blocks away from the main crash site were damaged.

“I woke up to what I thought was an earthquake,” a nearby neighbor told CNN affiliate KCBS/KCAL. “My kids woke up as well, they looked out the window and started screaming. My whole front area was on fire. We were trapped in our home and couldn’t get out.

Later Thursday, as the full scale of damage came into view, officials inspected the skeleton of a home, ravaged by the plane’s impact, which gouged a hole in its side and crushed the roof onto a car beneath. The thick stench of jet fuel hung in the air as crews combed the wreckage for possible clues to the cause of the crash. Between the charred remains of vehicles laid a yellow body bag, a somber reminder of the tragedy’s toll.

It’s a “miracle” none of the fatalities involved residents in the neighborhood, Eddy, the assistant fire chief, said.

“When I was coming on scene, I did not expect that same outcome as I got here,” he said. “I don’t know exactly how they got out, but I do know that neighbors helped them get out, and that’s the beauty of what I love in this neighborhood. Military looking out for one another. They did exactly what they did to try to help each other.”

Music agency Sound Talent Group said three of its employees, including David Shapiro, one of its co-founders, died in the crash, the Associated Press reported Thursday. The agency did not name the two other employees who died. CNN reached out to Sound Talent Group for more information.

Shapiro represented some of the most well-known international hard rock, punk and indie bands.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dave Shapiro and his two colleagues,” a spokesperson for the National Independent Talent Organization, a trade organization that represents independent talent agencies and managers across the country, told CNN in a statement. “Dave was a visionary in the music industry,” the statement said.

Shapiro, who had a pilot’s license, owned the aircraft under a company named “Daviator LLC,” according to FAA records.

Scott Wahl, San Diego police chief, said he was struggling to describe the scene his crews encountered when they arrived.

“I can’t quite put words to describe what this scene looked like but with the jet fuel running down the streets and everything on fire all at once, it was pretty horrific to see,” he said during a news conference.

Footage from the immediate aftermath captured mothers and fathers clutching children on their hips, running through the mist of water dousing the flames, while frightened dogs scrambled alongside them.

The San Diego Humane Society has taken in 36 pets, including dogs, at least one cat, 5 geckos and a 20 gallon fish tank for emergency boarding from families impacted by the crash, it said on social media. The organization’s medical team gave several animals decontamination baths to clean off jet fuel.

Authorities work the scene where a small plane crashed into a San Diego neighborhood Thursday.

The National Transportation Safety Board is on scene documenting the crash site and plans to recover the airplane to a secure location on Saturday, said Eliott Simpson, a senior aviation accident investigator. This aircraft likely has a flight data recorder and possibly a cockpit voice recorder, he said.

The jet departed from Teterboro, New Jersey, Wednesday night at about 11:15 p.m., making a fuel stop in Wichita, Kansas, before crashing, according to Simpson.

A preliminary report will be published on the NTSB website in about two weeks and a final report will be released in about 12-18 months.

“I feel for the families of those on the plane and what they’re going through right now,” Eddy said during Thursday’s news conference.

“It’s tragic to see [the wreckage] … whether you’re involved or not, just normal citizens that are here, they’re going to remember this the rest of their lives.”
