Maya Harris, Kamala Harris' sister; highlights from her DNC speech
Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, frequently references her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, as a significant source of encouragement and inspiration throughout her journey.
On this momentous occasion, Harris' younger sister, Maya Harris, who is one of the vice president's most trusted advisors, once again acknowledged their mother. At one moment, she appeared to become emotional while contemplating what Gopalan would express upon witnessing her eldest daughter accept the Democratic party's presidential nomination.
"I can envision her smiling and expressing her pride in Kamala," Maya stated. "And then, without hesitation, she would add, 'That's enough. You have work to do.'"
Kamala Harris held the position of campaign chairperson for her sister's 2020 presidential bid. She is also a lawyer and has previously occupied the role of vice president for democracy, rights, and justice at the Ford Foundation, a philanthropic organization.
Similarly, Maya Harris is a lawyer and served as a senior policy advisor for the policy agenda of Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign. She also took on the role of campaign chairperson for her sister's 2020 presidential campaign.
Additionally, she has held the position of vice president for democracy, rights, and justice at the Ford Foundation and is an alumna of Stanford Law School.
